Dimensions refer to the measurements of an object, typically expressed in terms of height and width. In the context of prints, the dimension often listed is the size of the actual image itself. However, the overall size of the print can differ depending on the border included around the image. For example, prints that come with a 1-inch white border on all sides add an extra 2 inches to both the height and width of the image. So, if a print’s image size is 8" x 10", the overall print with a 1" border would measure 10" x 12". This helps ensure that the image has a clean margin and allows for easier framing or matting.

For larger prints, a 2-inch white border is sometimes used to provide a more substantial margin, which increases the overall dimensions even more. In this case, the border adds 4 inches to both the height and width of the image. For instance, an 18" x 24" image with a 2" border would result in a total print size of 22" x 28". Understanding the difference between the image size and the overall print size is important when selecting frames, planning wall space, or comparing different print options, as the borders affect both the visual presentation and the physical dimensions.
